| 01/28/2006 Eight generations. That's how many development changes Honda's Civic – Ballade for a while in South Africa – has now reached with the launch here this week of the latest sedan version. It's a stunning, high-tech machine in three model variants but each with the same engine – a 1.8-litre i-VTEC capable, the company says, of 103kW (at 6300rpm) and 174Nm (at 4200rpm). There's a five-speed manual gearbox or, for an extra R12 000 in each case, a five-speed auto. The power and torque, says Honda SA MD Hiroaki Shibata, is equivalent to two-litre competitors but, thanks to the development of this whole new engine with some very clever gizmos on its valves, will return a fuel consumption figure closer to that of a 1 Motoring |
